Kolkata, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Trinamool Congress General Secretary and the party's Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee, who was heckled and assaulted at Sonarpur in South 24 Paragans district of West Bengal on Saturday, had been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after he was escorted out of Sonarpur and brought back to the state capital Kolkata.
After reaching the hospital, Abhishek Banerjee was seen sitting in a wheelchair. He entered the hospital while sitting in a wheelchair.
After receiving news about attack on her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also reached the Eastern Metropolitical hospital and went straight to the emergency unit of the hospital where Abhishek Banerjee is reportedly undergoing the check-up by a team of doctors.
Mamata Banerjee was accompanied by Abhishek Banerjee's mother Lata Banerjee.
Soon other Trinamool Congress leaders, including the West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, former Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Trinamool Congress' Legislative Party leader in Assembly Derek O'Brien also reached the hospital.
Earlier on Saturday, after Abhishek Banerjee reached Sonarpur to meet the family members of slain Trinamool Congress workers, reportedly a victim of post-poll violence, faced massive protests by the local people, especially women.
The women protesters also physically assaulted and slapped the Trinamool Congress General Secretary, and threw eggs at him. To protect his head, Abhishek Banerjee then had to put on a cricket helmet after being hit with eggs by the protesters.
He reached the residence of the slain Trinamool worker and interacted with his family members.
Later, Abhishek Banerjee was escorted out of Sonarpur by the personnel of West Bengal Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
While he was escorted out, the protesting women stood on both sides of the road shouting slogans and describing Abhishek Banerjee as a "thief".
Mamata Banerjee had issued a social media post directly accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the state government over the attack on The Trinamool Congress General Secretary.
