Kangana Ranaut Says Politics Helped Her Connect With Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata Role: “I Would Have Been Incompetent Otherwise”

At the trailer launch of Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata in Mumbai, actress and BJP leader Kangana Ranaut opened up about the emotional impact the film's story had on her. Speaking about the project, which is inspired by the real-life heroism of hospital workers during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Kangana revealed that reading the script left her deeply moved. She said she was saddened by how stories of loss often dominate headlines, while acts of courage and lives saved rarely receive the same attention.

Reflecting on the film's central theme, Kangana noted that society tends to focus on tragedies rather than the people who risk everything to protect others. “Where people die, the incidents are widely reported, but where people are saved, those incidents are not talked about,” she said. The actress emphasized that the story of Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata shines a much-needed spotlight on ordinary individuals whose bravery helped save hundreds of lives during one of India's darkest moments.

Kangana also spoke about how her journey outside the film industry helped her prepare for the role. According to the actress, interacting with people from different walks of life through her political career gave her a broader understanding of real-world experiences. She admitted that living solely within the film industry's environment can sometimes create a disconnect from everyday realities, adding that these interactions allowed her to approach the character with greater authenticity and empathy.

Directed by Manoj Tapadia, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata tells the inspiring true story of staff members at Mumbai's Cama Hospital who reportedly helped protect nearly 400 patients during the 26/11 terror attacks. With Kangana playing a nurse at the center of the narrative, the film aims to honor the unsung heroes whose courage, humanity, and sense of duty prevailed amid fear and uncertainty. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on June 12, 2026.
