Deepak Tijori Earns First Best Actor Nomination After 35 Years with Echoes of Us

In a career milestone that’s been over three decades in the making, actor Deepak Tijori has earned his first-ever Best Actor nomination — and it’s on an international stage. The veteran actor has been recognized at the Independent Short Awards in Los Angeles, California, for his standout performance in Echoes of Us, a poignant short film directed by Joe Rajan.

 

Tijori, who has been a familiar face in Indian cinema since the late '80s with films like Aashiqui, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, expressed deep gratitude for the long-awaited recognition. “Feeling overwhelmed with this nomination at an international film festival,” he shared. “I was never even nominated – not even for a supporting role – in my own country. This recognition means the world to me.” His emotional response highlights not just a personal victory, but also a broader commentary on the industry’s often selective gaze when it comes to rewarding consistent performers.
