Shoojit Sircar Announces Re-Release of Vicky Donor as a Tribute To Friends

Acclaimed filmmaker Shoojit Sircar took to social media to announce the re-release of his landmark film Vicky Donor, scheduled to hit selected PVR-INOX screens on April 18. In a heartfelt post, Sircar wrote, "VICKY DONOR rereleasing on 18th April. PVR-INOX CURATED SHOWS. A tribute to our dear friends Jayanta Das and Akshay Verma." The special re-release aims to honor the memories of two close collaborators from the film, while offering fans a chance to revisit the cult classic on the big screen.

 

Originally released in 2012, Vicky Donor marked the directorial breakthrough of Shoojit Sircar and the acting debut of Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam. Produced by John Abraham, Sunil Lulla, and Ronnie Lahiri, the film tackled the taboo subject of sperm donation with humor and sensitivity. Set within a Bengali-Punjabi household, the film artfully blended romance and social commentary, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success.

 

The film’s impact was underscored at the 60th National Film Awards, where it won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. At the 58th Filmfare Awards, it bagged four honors, including Best Male Debut (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Best Supporting Actor (Annu Kapoor).
