LG G6: Set to win hearts with bold display format
By Anuj Sharma

Barcelona, March 1 (IANS) Always at the forefront when it comes to innovation, South Korean electronics major LG has delivered several unique flagship designs but none of the devices has really won hearts till date.

Launched last year, LG G5 featured a "slide-out" battery design and dual rear cameras -- the only device to feature dual primary cameras which work independent of each other -- taking us one step closer to the age of "one device fits all".

The device, however, did not perform as expected.

This time, kicking off an era of premium smartphones with the unique 18:9 screen aspect ratio, LG introduced the G6 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) here that features a bold new display format complemented by a cinematic viewing experience.

Compared to conventional 16:9 aspect ratio displays, the 18:9 format offers more viewing space and a better immersive experience while streaming videos and playing games.

Sculpted from aluminium and glass, LG G6 features a minimalist design that's sleek all round. It comes with a 5.7-inch QHD+ (2,880 x 1,440 resolution) "FullVision" display.

The device has Google Assistant built-in, empowering users to get quick answers, manage everyday tasks, enjoy the best music and videos and search G6 more efficiently than ever.

G6 features dual 13MP rear cameras, including a 125-degree lens on the wide angle and also comes with an expanded 100-degree field of view with its 5MP front camera.

LG UX 6.0 provides a "Square Camera" feature which divides the 18:9 display into two identical perfect squares.

With this, users can shoot images in 1:1 format -- a popular format on social media apps such as Instagram -- and review them in the adjacent window.

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor paired up with 4GB of RAM and runs on the Android Nougat operating system.

According to reports, LG G6 is equipped with "heat pipes" for better cooling as part of its efforts to strengthen product safety.

This technology lowers the temperature of the processor by some 6-10 per cent by dispersing heat and helping to prevent it from reaching the battery cell.

Conclusion: If you did not like the concept of modular G5, LG G6 appears strong enough to consider upgrading from last year's device. Welcome to a balanced flagship device from LG (the availability of the device is yet to be announced).
