New Delhi, July 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a swift and prompt action, the staff of Delhi's Karawal Nagar Police Station apprehended a group of five female snatchers involved in a chain-snatching incident and ensured the immediate recovery of the stolen gold chain.
On July 6, a woman registered a complaint stating that while shopping at the Monday Market near Akki Jewellers, Makhan Market, at about 8.40 p.m., an unknown woman approached her on the pretext of seeking assistance, claiming that her foot was sprained. However, taking advantage of the crowded market, the woman, along with her associates, allegedly snatched the complainant's gold chain.
As soon as the complainant realised that her gold chain had been snatched, she raised an alarm. Alert members of the public immediately chased the accused women and successfully apprehended all five of them while they were attempting to flee from the spot. During the chase, the snatched gold chain was recovered from the possession of one of the accused women. The recovered chain, though partially damaged, was returned to the complainant, police said.
An official statement said that based on the complaint, FIR No. 184/2026 under Sections 303(2), 317(2) & 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the Karawal Nagar Police Station, and all five accused women were arrested
During sustained interrogation, efforts are being made to ascertain their involvement in other similar incidents of chain snatching and theft.
The oldest among the apprehended accused has been identified as 42-year-old V. Suman, while the youngest is 28-year-old Roshni Devi. All five are residents of the national capital's Inderpuri and Madangir areas.
According to investigators, Suman was previously found to have been involved in one case of hurt, whereas no previous criminal involvement has been found against the remaining four accused.
Further investigation in the case is in progress.
In another case, Delhi Police have arrested a notorious snatcher and recovered five stolen mobile phones along with a stolen Honda Activa scooty from him, officials said on Thursday.
A team of Nand Nagri Police Station (PS) in the national capital arrested the accused.
