Patna, July 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has arrested a clerk posted at the Dhanrua Circle Office in Patna district after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe for processing a Jamabandi (land record mutation) application.
The accused has been identified as Shailesh Kumar, who has been serving at the Dhanrua Circle Office for the past three years.
According to Vigilance DSP Asif Rafiq Mehdi, the Bureau received a complaint on June 17, 2026, from Rajkumar, son of Chitaranjan Singh and a resident of Ramnibigha village under the Dhanrua police station.
The complainant alleged that the clerk had demanded Rs 50,000 to process the Jamabandi of his ancestral land.
After verifying the allegations, the Vigilance Bureau constituted a special trap team and planned a raid.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team conducted a raid on Monday and allegedly caught Shailesh Kumar red-handed while accepting the bribe.
DSP Asif Rafiq Mehdi said the complaint was first verified before the trap was laid, following standard procedure.
“The complainant informed the Vigilance Department that a clerk was demanding Rs 50,000 for Jamabandi work. After verification, a trap team was formed and the accused was arrested while accepting the bribe,” the DSP said.
Complainant Rajkumar alleged that he had been repeatedly harassed by the clerk over the processing of the Jamabandi of his ancestral property.
“He was demanding Rs 50,000 for the Jamabandi of our ancestral land in Ramnibigha village. I had been facing harassment for a long time, which is why I approached the Vigilance Department,” Rajkumar said.
Following the arrest, the Vigilance Bureau registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and initiated further legal proceedings.
The arrest also drew reactions from local residents present at the scene, some of whom alleged that the clerk had similarly harassed and demanded money from several other people.
Police said these allegations, if formally reported, would be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
