Ahmedabad, June 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday provisionally attached immovable properties worth approximately Rs 2 crore in connection with a disproportionate assets case involving a Western Railway employee, following an investigation into the alleged acquisition of wealth beyond known sources of income.
The action was taken by the Ahmedabad Zonal Office of the agency under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
The case pertains to Prashant Rabri, who was employed as a porter-cum-box boy with Western Railway and is alleged to have accumulated significant assets through corrupt practices during his service period.
According to the investigation, the ED initiated proceedings on the basis of an FIR registered by the Gujarat Police under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The FIR disclosed predicate offences scheduled under the PMLA, enabling the central agency to take cognisance of the matter.
The ED's investigation found that, during his employment between January 1, 2017, and February 2, 2021, Prashant Rabri allegedly acquired disproportionate assets valued at approximately Rs 2.58 crore.
These assets are stated to include both movable and immovable properties registered in his name, as well as in the name of his wife, Amul Rabari.
"These properties were acquired through illicit funds generated through corrupt activities," officials said.
Following a detailed financial analysis and examination of property records, the ED concluded that a significant portion of the assets had been directly financed using proceeds of crime.
Acting under its powers under the PMLA, the agency issued a Provisional Attachment Order (PAO) covering immovable properties valued at around Rs 2 crore.
Officials stated that the attached properties were identified as having been acquired through the direct utilisation of alleged illegal income.
Further proceedings in the case will continue in accordance with the provisions of the PMLA, under which the matter will be adjudicated by the competent authority.
The investigation remains ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged financial irregularities and identify any additional assets linked to the case.
