Nagpur, May 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) BJP Minority Morcha National President Jamal Siddiqui has allegedly received death threats and extortion demands through WhatsApp messages, prompting him to file a complaint with the Nagpur Police.
The threatening messages were sent from mobile number 8899162823 between May 25 and May 27, following which Siddiqui approached the police.
According to the FIR, the unidentified accused demanded an amount ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore through UPI and bank transfer.
The sender allegedly threatened to harm Siddiqui and his family members if the money was not paid.
The messages also contained references to bomb blasts and targeted killings of senior Congress leaders, claiming that the attacks would be carried out because those leaders had “disrespected” the sender.
The accused named several senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sachin Pilot, Mallikarjun Kharge and Uday Bhanu Chib, in the threatening messages.
Siddiqui has submitted multiple WhatsApp screenshots, chat logs and other digital evidence to the police.
Nagpur Police have registered a case against the unidentified accused under Sections 308(5), 351(2), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal intimidation and extortion, along with Section 66(d) of the Information Technology Act.
A probe is underway to trace the origin of the mobile number and identify the sender through call record analysis, IP address tracking and cyber forensic examination.
Senior police officials said teams have been assigned to investigate the matter on priority.
“We are treating this seriously as it involves threats to a prominent political leader and mentions of possible violence. Technical teams are working to identify the culprit,” a police officer said.
Jamal Siddiqui, a BJP leader from the minority community, has been actively involved in party campaigns across Maharashtra.
The incident has raised concerns over the growing trend of cyber threats and political intimidation through digital platforms.
Political circles in Nagpur and Mumbai have expressed solidarity with Siddiqui and demanded swift action against those responsible.
The case also highlights the vulnerability of public figures to anonymous online threats.
Police have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious messages.
