Rajkot/Ahmedabad, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) A coordinated intelligence-led operation at Rajkot Airport led to the interception of a suspected silver consignment weighing around 180 kg and valued at nearly Rs 5 crore on Sunday following inputs indicating possible tax irregularities in its movement through air cargo.
Acting on specific intelligence received by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), authorities were alerted about the anticipated arrival of a high-value silver consignment intended for delivery to a Rajkot-based individual.
The input prompted immediate coordination between enforcement agencies to verify and act on the information without delay.
The Rajkot City Crime Branch was informed promptly, following which a team of Gujarat ATS officers was dispatched to Rajkot.
A joint operation was subsequently carried out by the ATS and the Crime Branch to track and intercept the consignment at the airport and examine the circumstances surrounding its arrival.
During the operation, officials intercepted the intended recipient and secured the parcels linked to the consignment. The packages were opened and inspected in his presence in accordance with established procedures.
Upon verification of the accompanying documents, authorities found that the paperwork related to the silver consignment was incomplete.
Preliminary scrutiny of the records indicated discrepancies pointing towards possible evasion of tax liabilities.
As the issue primarily concerned compliance under Goods and Services Tax (GST) provisions, the State GST (SGST) Department was immediately informed and briefed about the findings of the joint operation.
Officials said the swift communication ensured that the matter could be brought under the appropriate regulatory framework without procedural delay.
After completion of the necessary on-site verification and legal formalities, the case was formally handed over to the SGST Department for further investigation.
The department will now examine the documentation trail in detail, assess compliance with applicable tax laws and determine whether any violations occurred in relation to the consignment.
Officials involved in the operation described the action as the result of timely intelligence-sharing and coordinated execution between enforcement agencies, enabling the interception and verification of high-value cargo within a short span of time.
Further investigation is underway, with the SGST Department taking the case forward to ascertain the nature and extent of any irregularities detected during the operation.
