Delivered on promise to ensure justice for minor girl killed in 2025 poll violence in Bengal's Kaliganj: CM Adhikari

Kolkata, June 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari claimed on Saturday that he had kept the promise to ensure justice for the family members of Tamanna Khatun at Kaliganj in Nadia district of the state in June last year, by ensuring the arrest of 12 additional prime accused absconding in the case, in the last three days.

Tamanna's mother Sabina Iyasmin Sheikh had a meeting with the Chief Minister in the afternoon of June 23 and in that meeting the latter assured her of justice for her daughter.

Following the meeting with Tamannna's mother with Chief Minister Adhikari, the police became extremely active and in the last three days, the police officers arrested 12 more accused persons one after another, taking the total number of arrests to 19.

On Saturday afternoon, the Chief Minister issued a social media statement claiming that he had kept the promise that he made to Tamanna's mother which was evident in the prompt police action during the last three days.

"Justice for Tamanna is our priority and we are delivering on our promise. I express satisfaction and appreciate the Krishnanagar District Police Personnel for their prompt and lawful action in this case. Following my meeting with Tamanna's grieving Mother, the Police have acted swiftly to ensure the culprits face the full force of the law. I am pleased to inform the People of West Bengal that almost all of the FIR-named accused have now been arrested. In the last few days, our Forces while relentlessly pursuing leads across State Lines to places like Gurgaon and Nagpur have apprehended 12 more individuals," Chief Minister Adhikari claimed in his statement.

In the social media statement, the Chief Minister also released the names of 12 accused persons in the last three days. They are Jiarul Seikh, Sabir Seikh, Fakar Seikh alias Ismile Seikh, Hafizul Seikh, Minarul Seikh, Anisur Seikh, Milan Seikh, Rajabul Seikh, Jakat Seikh, Sahibul Seikh, Amirul Seikh and Rakibul Seikh.

Chief Minister Adhikari also claimed that the swift action on part of the police also sent a clear signal that unlike previous governments, where culprits were distinguished by their political affiliations and police action was heavily influenced by the political identity of the victims, the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by him will operate differently.

"We have taken a strong, unyielding resolve to establish the "Rule of Law" and completely abolish the dark era where the "Law of the Ruler" prevailed. A crime is a crime and action will be taken impartially, promptly & without any fear or favour, irrespective of the victim's or accused person's identity," the Chief Minister claimed.

Tamanna Khatun, who belonged to a family of CPI-M supporters, was killed in a crude bomb blast on June 23 last year. On that day, the result of the bypolls for Kaliganj Assembly constituency in the district had been announced, which marked a landslide victory for the then Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed.

Khatun was a schoolgirl from Molandi village in Kaliganj of West Bengal's Nadia district. Some Trinamool Congress activists reportedly hurled crude bombs at the residence of the minor girl during a victory procession, killing Tamanna on the spot.

Tamanna's mother Sabina Iyasmin Sheikh contested as a CPI-M candidate from Kaliganj in the recently-concluded West Bengal Assembly polls, but was defeated by Trinamool Congress' Alifa Ahmed, who got elected for the second consecutive term.
