Kolkata, June 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal Police on Wednesday said that two more persons were arrested late on Tuesday night in connection with the murder of a minor girl, Tamanna Khatun, in June last year.

The minor girl from Kaliganj in Nadia district, who belonged to a family of CPI(M) supporters, was killed in a blast on June 23 last year.

On that day, the result of the bypolls for Kaliganj Assembly Constituency in the district had been announced, which marked a landslide victory for the then Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed.

Some Trinamool Congress activists reportedly hurled crude bombs at the residence of the minor girl during a victory procession, killing Tamanna Khatun on the spot.

Tamanna’s mother Sabina Iyasmin Sheikh contested as a CPI(M) candidate from Kaliganj in the recently-concluded West Bengal Assembly polls, but was defeated by Trinamool Congress’ Alifa Ahmed, who got elected for the second-consecutive term.

The two Trinamool Congress activists who were arrested late on Tuesday night in connection with Tamanna’s murder have been identified as Sabit Sheikh and Ziarul Sheikh.

“Both were absconding for a long time. However, on receiving definite information about their hideout, a team of cops conducted a raid at that place and nabbed the two. Both will be presented at a district court in Nadia later on Wednesday and the Public Prosecutor will seek their police custody,” said a state police officer.

Incidentally, West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari assured Tamanna’s mother of justice during a meeting with her on Tuesday.

Within 12 hours of the meeting with the Chief Minister, the two absconding men were arrested by the police.

Expressing satisfaction with the development, Tamanna’s mother on Wednesday morning thanked CM Adhikari while speaking to media persons.

“The Chief Minister met me on Tuesday and despite his busy schedule he gave us a patient hearing. He assured us of justice. Soon after that the two accused persons were arrested. I sincerely thank the Chief Minister for this,” Tamanna’s mother said.

In fact, while participating in a discussion on the floor of the West Bengal Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session of the House, the Chief Minister reiterated the stand of the state government of adopting a zero-tolerance policy on the issue of crimes against women.
