Bengaluru, June 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Karnataka Legislative Council Opposition Leader and BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Tuesday questioned Minister for Home Priyank Kharge over his remarks on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asking why he had not written for the dissolution of the Congress party.
Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Narayanaswamy said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had already responded to the issues raised by Priyank Kharge and suggested that the Minister had received his answer.
Referring to Mahatma Gandhi's views on the Congress party after Independence, Narayanaswamy said Gandhi had advocated dissolving the Congress and transforming it into a public service organisation named “Lok Sevak Sangh.”
He noted that Gandhi had envisioned the organisation working for women, the Scheduled Castes and the protection of cows.
"Your father is the AICC President. Why have you not written a letter seeking the dissolution of the Congress party in line with Mahatma Gandhi's wishes?" Narayanaswamy asked Priyank Kharge.
Questioning the Minister’s stand on legality, he said Kharge claimed the law was the same for everyone. “If that is the case, why have you not approached the courts?” Narayanaswamy asked.
He criticised Congress leaders for repeatedly targeting the RSS and said Priyank Kharge had joined the list of Congress leaders who had raised such questions.
Narayanaswamy further accused Priyank Kharge of ignoring issues affecting the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes while focusing on the RSS. He said B.R. Ambedkar had fought for social justice and reservation benefits to uplift marginalised communities and questioned what injustice the RSS had caused to Dalits.
He alleged that the Congress government had failed to ensure that funds under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) reached the intended beneficiaries. He also criticised the government for allegedly diverting such funds toward its guarantee schemes and claimed that Priyank Kharge had defended the move.
"Why have you not demanded that these funds be used for the development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes? Do you lack the courage to do so?" he asked.
Raising concerns over law and order, Narayanaswamy said people were suffering due to confusion surrounding reservation policies and alleged that incidents of murder, robbery and atrocities against Dalits were increasing. Referring to a recent case in Hubballi-Dharwad, he questioned the Minister about the government’s response to crimes against women and deteriorating law and order.
He also accused Priyank Kharge of failing to address Dalit issues despite becoming a Minister through a reserved constituency and claimed that several Dalit leaders had been politically sidelined.
"There are many pressing issues affecting Dalits. Why are these not receiving your attention?" he asked, alleging that the Minister’s actions had harmed Dalit political representation, particularly in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
Narayanaswamy maintained that he was not an RSS spokesperson and had no authority to speak on behalf of the organisation. However, he noted that thousands of organisations engaged in social and community service activities were legally registered and involved in efforts such as social reform, Dalit empowerment, and promoting equality.
He concluded by saying that the BJP would welcome any genuine efforts by Priyank Kharge to fight for Dalit issues and social justice, rather than raising what he described as unrelated controversies.
