Bengaluru, June 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka on Tuesday questioned the Congress leadership over the delay in expanding the state cabinet, alleging that internal power struggles and concerns over the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections were holding up the process.
In a statement, Ashoka said the developments within the Congress had raised more questions than they had answered. Referring to reports that Chief Minister-designate D.K. Shivakumar would take oath along with only 14 ministers, he asked why the formation of the full cabinet was being delayed.
The BJP leader questioned whether the Congress high command was concerned that a full-fledged cabinet formation ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 18 could trigger resentment, rebellion, or even cross-voting among its legislators.
Ashoka alleged that Karnataka’s administrative machinery had come to a standstill over the past two weeks as Congress leaders remained occupied with negotiations over power-sharing arrangements.
“It has already been more than two weeks since governance in Karnataka came to a grinding halt. The government appears more focused on internal negotiations than on addressing the concerns of the people,” he said.
He also criticised the repeated consultations between Karnataka Congress leaders and the party high command in New Delhi, questioning how much longer the state's people would have to wait for a fully functioning government.
“How many more trips to Delhi? How much more lobbying? How much longer must the people of Karnataka watch this struggle for positions and portfolios before the government gets down to work?” he asked.
Ashoka said the people of Karnataka had voted for governance and development, not for what he described as an extended exercise in internal political settlement within the Congress.
He further demanded that the Congress clarify whether the delay in cabinet expansion was driven by administrative considerations or by fears that its own legislators could upset the party’s calculations in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
“Karnataka cannot be held hostage to Congress’s internal power struggles. The state needs governance, stability, and leadership, not endless bargaining over posts and positions,” Ashoka said.
