“Hats Off To Sanjay Dutt For Backing Such Projects,” Says Writer Utkarsh Naithani on ‘Aakhri Sawal’

The upcoming political drama Aakhri Sawal is steadily building strong anticipation ahead of its theatrical release on 15 May 2026. Directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang and produced by Sanjay Dutt along with Nikhil Nanda, the film is already being appreciated for its bold narrative and thought-provoking theme.

At the trailer launch in Mumbai, writer Utkarsh Naithani opened up about his experience working with Sanjay Dutt and did not hold back his admiration for the veteran actor-producer. Speaking to the media, he recalled how the journey began and the immediate impact Dutt had on the project.

Utkarsh shared a heartfelt moment from their first meeting, saying: “Baba was the very first person to acknowledge my work—I must tell you: when I first met Baba and narrated the story to him, we were all incredibly nervous. Yet, you simply won't find people like him elsewhere in this industry.”

He further described Sanjay Dutt’s reaction to the script as something rare in the industry, emphasizing the simplicity and conviction with which he came on board:

“There were no lengthy discussions, no complications—nothing of the sort. Baba simply stood up, embraced me, and Sanju Baba declared, ‘I’m doing this.’ That is the kind of heart and conviction one needs to possess. And that, precisely, is why he is Sanjay Dutt.”

Utkarsh also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work on a film that explores a deeply engaging and socially relevant narrative. Aakhri Sawal revolves around a volatile scholar, Vicky Hegde (played by Namashi Chakraborty), who challenges his mentor, Professor Gopal Nadkarni (played by Sanjay Dutt), after his thesis is rejected. This disagreement spirals into a national-level debate, eventually exposing a buried secret that changes everything.

The film features a strong ensemble cast including Amit Sadh as Aditya Rao, Sameera Reddy as Prof. Pallavi Menon, and Neetu Chandra as Kavya Rawat. With its intense academic-political backdrop, the story promises a gripping blend of emotion, ideology, and revelation.

Utkarsh Naithani summed up his appreciation with a powerful statement, saying it is rare to find actors who not only believe in a script instantly but also support unconventional storytelling with full conviction.
