'Hive' Trailer Teases a Chilling Playground Nightmare You Won't Forget

Streaming platform Tubi has unveiled the official trailer for Hive, an indie horror thriller that turns an everyday setting into something deeply unsettling. Based on Felipe Vargas’ 2024 short film of the same name, the feature expands the eerie concept into a full-length psychological ride—one that blends paranoia, fear, and the uncanny terror of children behaving… not quite right.

At the center of Hive is a strict and anxious teenager played by Xochitl Gomez, whose life spirals into chaos after the child she’s babysitting mysteriously disappears. What follows is far from a typical search. Instead, she’s pulled into a disturbing reality where a sinister presence seems to be hiding in plain sight—among playground children. The trailer hints at a creeping dread, where innocence masks something far more dangerous.

As her grip on reality begins to slip, the protagonist is forced to question everything she sees and hears. Is the threat real, or is her mind betraying her? The film leans heavily into psychological horror, using confusion and atmosphere rather than jump scares alone. This “creepy kids” angle, long a staple of the genre, gets a fresh twist here with an almost hive-like collective menace that feels both abstract and terrifyingly tangible.

The film also features a strong supporting cast including Aaron Dominguez, Zenobia Kloppers, Victoria Firsova, Tanya van Graan, Jenny le Roux, and Thulani Nzonzo. Together, they help build a world that feels grounded enough to be believable—making the horror all the more effective.

Set to premiere on April 17, 2026, Hive looks like a promising addition to the indie horror space. With its unsettling premise and slow-burn tension, it’s a film that could linger long after the credits roll. If the trailer is anything to go by, this is one playground you might not want to visit anytime soon.
