Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Saregama Join Forces in 300 Crore Power Move That Could Change Indian Entertainment

In a major development set to reshape India’s entertainment landscape, Bhansali Productions has officially announced a strategic partnership with music giant Saregama. Sharing the update, the production house called it a meeting of minds, stating, “Two Giants Coming Together.” The collaboration aims to redefine long-form content in India while significantly expanding the creative and production slate of Bhansali Productions Pvt Ltd.

 

As per the announcement, Saregama has made a 300 crore (approximately $36 million) investment to acquire an initial 28% stake in Bhansali Productions, with structured options to increase its holding up to 51% in the future. The move is designed to scale film, series, and music production under the creative leadership of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a filmmaker synonymous with grandeur, storytelling, and timeless music.

 

One of the most impactful aspects of the deal is the exclusive music arrangement. Saregama will receive rights to all future Bhansali film soundtracks under a pre-agreed formula. This not only strengthens Saregama’s already formidable music catalog but also helps the label optimize content acquisition costs while boosting long-term margins and intellectual property value.

 

For Bhansali Productions, the partnership brings strong financial backing and a robust distribution ecosystem, enabling larger-scale storytelling across cinema and series formats. For Saregama, it ensures access to premium, high-quality film music — a crucial asset in an era where evergreen soundtracks continue to drive streams, reels, and cultural recall.

 

The transaction was advised by Kotak Investment Banking, which acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Bhansali Productions and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, while Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas served as the legal advisor. The involvement of top-tier advisors underlines the scale and seriousness of the collaboration.
