Dhanush on Kuberaa: A Different Role, a Different Experience

At a lively music launch event in Mumbai for the film’s single Pippi Pippi Dum Dum Dum, actor Dhanush shared his candid thoughts on working on the much-anticipated social thriller Kuberaa. Describing the project as “very different” and “close to my heart,” he emphasized that this was not just another film but a special experience. He spoke fondly about the unique shooting locations, including a dump yard and garbage trucks, which made the filming process both challenging and enriching. “Every experience teaches you something,” Dhanush noted, highlighting the positivity and brilliance of the entire team.

 

Discussing his role in the film, Dhanush revealed he plays a beggar—a character unlike any he has portrayed before. “I did a lot of research and homework,” he joked, clarifying that he didn’t literally stand under the sun but instead leaned heavily on the guidance of director Sekhar Kammula. “Sekhar sir was brilliant,” he said, praising the director’s insight in helping him capture the character’s nuances and making the role more approachable. This challenge, he admitted, was an enjoyable departure from his usual roles.

 

Despite usually being a private person who avoids the spotlight, Dhanush acknowledged the importance of promoting Kuberaa extensively. “You don’t generally see me out often, but this film deserves to be promoted like this,” he explained at the Mumbai event, underlining the film’s significance to him personally and professionally. His enthusiasm reflects the high expectations surrounding the film’s release.

 

Kuberaa is a social thriller directed and co-written by Sekhar Kammula, produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao of Amigos Creations. The film stars a stellar cast including Nagarjuna, Dhanush, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and Dalip Tahil, and is shot simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. With music by Devi Sri Prasad and visual artistry from cinematographer Niketh Bommireddy and production designer Thota Tharani, Kuberaa is set to hit theaters worldwide on 20 June 2025, promising a gripping cinematic experience.
