Film critic Anupama Chopra, Rohan Sippy, Vikramaditya Motwani, Rana Daggubati, Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Deepti Dcunha and more graced the Inaugural Press Conference for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023.
Talking about life-time achievement award, Rohan Sippy said, “Three very deserving recipients this time around, first is Aruna Vasudev, in the recognition of lifelong commitment as Asian and Indian cinema ambassador internationally and establishment of institutions that enables Asian talent through her work as a film critique, festival director, community builder and creator of organization like Netpack. Second is Narseen Umi Kabir, in recognition of her contribution of outstanding artistic significance, in the field of cinema, for archiving the legacies of stalwarts of Indian cinema, and making Indian films accessible globally, through her impeccable talent of sub-titling over 800 Indian films and counting.”
“And the third, we have Uma DCunha, for her lifelong commitment for showcasing Indian Independent art-house cinema, film festivals worldwide and creating visibility for Indian filmmakers and talent internationally through her work as a festival programmer, and casting director” added Rohan.
After a three-year hiatus, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is returning with a larger lineup and an expanded focus on South Asian cinema. The festival will feature 250 films including 40 world premieres, 45 Asia premieres and 70 South Asia Premieres.
The festival’s new vision is to become a hub for South Asian and South Asian diaspora cinema and talent and, in keeping with this, the main competition is for 14 films from the region.
