Dallas Stars to Hire Peter DeBoer As Their New Coach: Sources

It has been a month since Rick Bowness announced that he would be parting ways from the Dallas Stars NHL team. After the team's elimination from the 2022 Stanley Cup tournament, the head coach stepped down. Throughout the past month, the Dallas Stars and the Calgary Flames saw each other in a series of seven matches, where a very intense final saw the Calgary Flames defeat the Dallas Stars by 2-3, winning the seven-match series 4-3. This was the last straw for Bowness, who stepped down less than a week later. Word has it that Peter DeBoer is now on his way to claim the vacant job.

Dallas Stars getting Peter DeBoer has a lot of implications for their future, given that Bowness had been around for quite a long time and had been associated with the team since 2018. The next time you plan on choosing your players for NHL matches, you’ve got to keep this new combination in mind. There are some websites that offer you free picks on the NHL, which you might want to consider as their predictions are fairly accurate. Sites like these keep the coaches and how the team bonded with them while making their predictions.

The story of Peter DeBoer joining the Dallas Stars team broke when Elliot Friedman tweeted about it. However, his name was often discussed by the fans, and it seems that he is indeed on his way to making some final handshakes with the top management at the Stars. While as of this point in time, nobody can say for sure if DeBoer is willing to coach the Stars as the contract is yet to be signed, it does seem like there will be a confirmation over the next couple of days.

DeBoer has experience coaching for over a thousand games in the NHL, making him one of the best candidates for the job. In the past, he has been associated with Las Vegas, from where he was fired after the team wasn't able to make it to the playoffs. DeBoer has a record of 513-379-123 in the NHL. Other than the LA team, DeBoer has also been associated with New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers, and San Jose Sharks.

With the Stars and DeBoer coming close to making a formal announcement, a section of the fans is quite unhappy with them. Social media posts, particularly on Twitter, aren’t really enthusiastic about DeBoer’s hiring for the top job at Stars. Many consider that he has been given enough chances but has never really managed to deliver. However, the management at Dallas Stars seems to be pretty confident that DeBoers is indeed the right man for the task and will help turn around the team’s fortunes over the next few seasons and tournaments.

For DeBoer, this is perhaps his final opportunity as well, and failing to make a remarkable impact at the Dallas Stars will hurt his chances in the future with other major names in the NHL. DeBoer, who is 54 years old, has had his own fair share of ups and downs in his coaching career and it will really be interesting to see how the locker room reacts to his hiring, if and when it gets officially announced.

Dallas Stars, in the past, have made it to the Stanley Cup finals five times in the past - the most recent being 2020, which they lost. This is particularly why their recent performance saw coach Rick Bowness stepping down. Other than 2020, the team has managed to reach the finals in 1981, 1991, 1999,w and 2000 as well. They won the championship in 1999 and did not reach the finals for about 20 years since then.

While Peter DeBoer doesn't carry a stellar reputation in the NHL, he was indeed a big name in Canada's Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he was awarded the OHL Coach of the Year award twice! DeBoer is also the co-owner of the Oshawa Generals team in the OHL. What makes DeBoer’s career even more exciting is knowing the fact that he also has a degree in law! We hope he puts his degree to good use while signing his contract with the Dallas Stars. It will be interesting to see how this stint turns out to be and whether he is able to win over the fans over the course of the next few seasons.
