Mumbai, Aug 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday directed that departments across Maharashtra must prioritise the effective and timely utilisation of funds provided by the Union government for central schemes.
Heads of departments have been tasked with ensuring that fund utilisation exceeds 95 per cent this year.
Speaking at a review meeting on the availability and allocation of central funds, CM Fadnavis highlighted that Maharashtra has the capacity to spend Rs 16,000 crore to Rs 17,000 crore in central funds next year, with a significant portion allocated toward capital expenditure.
He directed departments to accept responsibility for executing these schemes within stipulated deadlines and to blend state resources with central grants to accelerate development seamlessly.
CM Fadnavis instructed departments to conduct thorough reviews to assess allocated, spent, and remaining funds, and to resolve accounting bottlenecks without delay. Officials must adopt new central accounting and technical systems immediately rather than waiting for cut-off dates. Strict action will follow if tasks are not completed within fixed timelines, he said.
He added that the Chief Secretary will head an effective tracking mechanism to review central fund utilisation every three months based on specific performance indicators.
Presentations led by Resident Commissioner Sushil Gaikwad and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Vikas Chandra Rastogi detailed the performance of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) across state departments.
The School Education and Sports Department led state utilisation at 96 per cent (achieving a 99.9 per cent budget utilisation rate). Cooperation, Marketing, and Textiles reached 99 per cent fund utilisation; the Home Department achieved 99 per cent fund utilisation; Soil and Water Conservation reached 98 per cent utilisation; Agriculture and Allied Activities recorded 94 per cent utilisation; and Rural Development spent Rs 8,537 crore out of Rs 9,874 crore distributed (86 per cent utilisation against a total budget provision of Rs 10,283 crore).
According to the government release, Women and Child Development recorded 83 per cent fund utilisation relative to distributed funds; the MGNREGA Scheme utilised 100 per cent of distributed funds; and Public Health recorded 75 per cent usage (101 per cent compared to budget provision). In contrast, the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission recorded 111 per cent fund utilisation.
The Chief Minister concluded that the primary goal of these ongoing reviews is to eliminate internal delays and drive fast-paced regional growth through full utilisation of central funding.
