New Delhi, July 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Public Library, under the Union Ministry of Culture, commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee by organising an event featuring the unveiling of a portrait and a memorial lecture series highlighting his enduring contribution to the nation, an official said on Monday.
Delivering the keynote address on "Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee: Architect of National Unity," Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta highlighted Mookerjee's unwavering commitment to India's unity, integrity and constitutional values, said an official statement.
He emphasised that Mookerjee's vision continues to inspire the nation in strengthening democratic institutions and fostering national integration.
Addressing the gathering on "From Educationist to Nation Builder: The Multifaceted Legacy of Dr Mookerjee," BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde reflected on Mookerjee's journey as an educationist, institution builder, parliamentarian and visionary leader.
He underscored the relevance of Mookerjee's ideas in shaping a progressive and self-reliant India.
Speaking on "Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee: The Man Who Challenged the Status Quo," New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj highlighted Mookerjee's courage, conviction and principled leadership.
She noted that his unwavering stand on issues of national importance and his commitment to democratic values continue to inspire generations of Indians.
The speakers collectively emphasised that Mookerjee's life and ideals remain a guiding force for the nation, encouraging citizens, particularly the youth, to uphold the values of patriotism, public service, integrity and national unity.
Delhi Public Library Chairman Sumeet Bhasin and Director General Priyanka Chandra were also present at the event.
The event commenced with the ceremonial unveiling of the portrait of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the presentation of floral tributes.
The programme brought together distinguished dignitaries, academicians, scholars, students, library professionals, and members of the public to pay homage to one of India's foremost nation-builders, the statement said.
