Patna, July 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) leader was seriously injured after being allegedly attacked by a group of assailants near Rajbazar under the Jehanabad Town Police Station limits on Saturday.
The incident has sparked concern as the victim is considered a close associate of Bihar minister Ashok Chaudhary. The injured leader has been identified as Manish Kumar, a resident of Sikariya village.
According to police, he sustained multiple injuries after being attacked with sharp-edged weapons, while the assailants were also reportedly carrying firearms.
According to preliminary information, Manish Kumar had come to Rajbazar to assist a fellow villager in obtaining medical treatment. He was consulting a doctor for the patient when a group of assailants allegedly attacked him. The sudden assault created panic in the area.
Residents and companions immediately rushed the injured leader to Jehanabad Sadar Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors said he suffered deep wounds caused by sharp-edged weapons and lost a significant amount of blood. His condition is being closely monitored.
While undergoing treatment, Manish Kumar identified one of the alleged attackers in his initial statement to the police. According to his statement, Ankit alias Laddu Narayan, accompanied by four or five unidentified associates, allegedly attacked him with sharp-edged weapons while carrying pistols.
The injured leader further alleged that the attackers threatened him during the assault, claiming they would continue dealing in liquor, opium, and other narcotic substances in the area and that no one could stop them. Police have not independently verified these allegations.
Following the attack, officers from Jehanabad Town Police Station reached the hospital to record the victim's statement and gather information from his family members.
Police said they are investigating all possible angles, including allegations that the assault may be linked to opposition to the illegal narcotics trade in the area. Raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to apprehend the named accused, Ankit alias Laddu Narayan, and other individuals allegedly involved in the attack.
Officials said further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
