Gujarat ACB nets two cops in Vadodara after Rs 10,000 bribe acceptance

Vadodara, June 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Vadodara were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a trap operation on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant, officials said.

The complainant, described as a "vigilant citizen", had approached the bureau after alleging that a case registered at Manjalpur Police Station on June 1 was being investigated by PSI Mallika Parmar of Vishwamitra Police Chowki.

During the investigation, Parmar allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 to avoid harassment and expedite bail proceedings.

After negotiation, the demand was reportedly reduced to Rs 10,000, which was allegedly routed through ASI Jaykishan Gameti of the Surveillance Squad.

The ACB said a trap was laid near Manjalpur Police Station, in front of “Bhavna Xerox” on the main road. During the operation, the ASI allegedly accepted Rs 10,000 on behalf of the PSI and placed the cash on the dashboard of a car.

Both officials were subsequently apprehended, and the entire amount was recovered on the spot. Officials confirmed that the alleged bribe amount of Rs 10,000 was fully recovered during the operation.

The ACB stated that the investigation is based on a formal complaint and a subsequent verification process before the trap was executed.

Further legal proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act are underway.

On Friday, the ACB trapped a Police Sub-Inspector and a head constable posted at Bopal Police Station in Ahmedabad in a bribery case involving Rs five lakh.

According to officials, the accused initially demanded Rs 10 lakh, later settling for Rs 5 lakh, before a trap was laid in which the head constable was caught red-handed while accepting the money.

"The PSI was not present at the spot during the operation but was named in the case," officials added.
