Acting on instructions from senior police officials, the LCB Zone-4 carried out sustained surveillance and intelligence-based checks to curb property offences, particularly vehicle thefts.
The case began on March 29 when the LCB Zone-4 team, while on patrol under the supervision of PSI S.M. Patel, acted on specific intelligence in the Naroda Police Station area.
A juvenile was apprehended during this operation. From his possession, seven stolen motorcycles were recovered.
These included five motorcycles stolen from Naroda, Krishnanagar, Shaherkotda and Bapunagar areas of Ahmedabad City, one motorcycle stolen from Himmatnagar ‘A’ Division in Sabarkantha, and one motorcycle stolen from Jhallara Police Station area in Salumbar district of Rajasthan.
The recovered vehicles were valued at around Rs 1.85 lakh. During subsequent investigation, two associates were identified as being involved in the thefts and were declared wanted.
They were identified as Ranjitsinh Rathod and Lalitkumar Meena, both residents of Salumbar district in Rajasthan.
Further action was taken today when the LCB Zone-4 team, acting on credible intelligence, detained the two wanted accused from the Meghaninagar area.
The operation was carried out by the team under field supervision during ongoing surveillance related to vehicle theft cases.
During interrogation, the accused led police to the recovery of eight additional stolen motorcycles.
These included six motorcycles stolen from Shahibaug, Meghaninagar, Madhavpura, Krishnanagar and Bapunagar police station areas of Ahmedabad City, one motorcycle stolen from Himmatnagar ‘B’ Division in Sabarkantha, and one motorcycle stolen from Ahor Police Station area in Jalore district of Rajasthan.
The recovered vehicles were valued at approximately Rs 2.65 lakh. With this, the total recovery in the case stands at 15 stolen motorcycles. Investigations have also led to the detection of 11 vehicle theft cases registered at different police stations across Ahmedabad City and outside Gujarat.
The accused are alleged to have been involved in theft activities since 2023, operating along with the juvenile previously apprehended in the case.
According to the investigation, the accused frequently travelled to Ahmedabad for labour work and stayed at different locations.
They allegedly stole motorcycles for use in commuting and short-term movement, abandoned them in secluded areas after use, and then repeated the thefts with other vehicles.
The LCB Zone-4 stated that further investigation is continuing to identify additional associates and determine whether the accused are linked to other pending vehicle theft cases or additional stolen property.
