CBI arrests proclaimed offender in Bengal’s Bogtui carnage of 2022

New Delhi, June 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The CBI on Tuesday arrested from Kolkata a proclaimed offender in the 2022 Bogtui carnage in which at least 10 people, mostly women and children, were burnt alive in a village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, an official said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Proclaimed Offender Rohan Sk alias Kismot Sk from Mirja Galib Road, Kolkata, in connection with the case, the official said in a statement.

The accused has been at large since the registration of the FIR in this case. He had never joined an investigation/trial, the CBI said.

The CBI registered the instant case on March 25, 2022, in compliance with the order of the Calcutta High Court by taking over Rampurhat Police Station FIR No. 169/2022 dated March 22, 2022, relating to the Bogtui carnage case.

After investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet and three supplementary charge sheets in the case in 2022-24 against 27 accused, including accused Rohan Sk. @ Kismot Sk.

As the accused was hiding and evading trial, the Competent Court at Rampurhat declared him a Proclaimed Offender (PO) on April 5, 2024.

The accused will be produced before the Competent Court in Purba Bardhaman on Wednesday, the statement said.

The Bogtui carnage case refers to the violence in Bogtui village, West Bengal, on March 21, 2022, wherein 10 people, mostly women and children, were burnt alive. The attack was allegedly linked to a political killing.

In a separate case reported in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, the CBI apprehended two proclaimed offenders wanted in a major bank fraud case involving the misappropriation of more than Rs 1.25 crore from the State Bank of India.

The accused, identified as Brijbhushan Prasad and Kartar Singh, were arrested on June 21 in a coordinated operation conducted across Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, bringing a long-pending investigation closer to closure.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on August 31, 2005, following allegations of fraudulent misappropriation of Rs 1.25 crore from SBI's Dhanbad branch between November 2002 and June 2005.
