Patna, June 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) In another anti-corruption operation in Bihar, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) arrested a revenue employee posted at the Garhani Circle Office in Bhojpur district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,500.
The accused, Jitendra Kumar, was apprehended during a trap operation conducted by the vigilance team inside the circle office premises.
The complaint was filed by Ramdev Ram, a resident of Adaura village under the Udwantnagar police station area of Bhojpur district. He alleged that Jitendra Kumar had demanded money for processing a land mutation (dakhil-kharij) case.
After receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau conducted a preliminary verification. Officials stated that the allegations were found prima facie true, after which a formal case was registered.
A trap team was subsequently constituted under the supervision of DSP Gautam Krishna of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau. The team then conducted the operation at the Garhani Circle Office, where the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 3,500.
Following his arrest, the accused was taken into custody for questioning. An official stated that he would be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna.
The investigation is continuing to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged bribery case.
According to figures released by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, this was the 74th corruption-related case registered in 2026, and the 69th trap case conducted during the year. A total of 69 accused persons have been arrested in trap operations so far.
The total amount of the bribe recovered in these cases stands at Rs 27,05,300. For comparison, in 2025, 101 trap cases were registered, and bribe money worth Rs 37,80,300 was recovered.
The latest case highlights the ongoing challenges anti-corruption agencies face in tackling bribery in government offices, particularly in land and revenue-related services. Officials have reiterated that citizens facing demands for bribes should report such incidents to vigilance authorities so that appropriate legal action can be taken.
