Anupam Kher Pens Emotional Tribute to Mahesh Bhatt, Says ‘I Remain a Student’

Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared a deeply personal and emotional post on social media, expressing gratitude towards filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, the man he credits with changing the course of his life and career. Accompanying the heartfelt note was a striking black-and-white photograph featuring Mahesh Bhatt smiling in the foreground, while a small statue of Kher stood quietly behind him.

Sharing the image, Kher revealed that he had clicked the photograph during Mahesh Bhatt's visit to his office last week. While he initially had no intention of writing about it, the image soon took on a deeper meaning. Reflecting on the photograph, Kher wrote, "SAARANSH OF THIS IMAGE! I clicked this pic last week in my office. But never intended to write a post about this it. Last week #MaheshBhatt Saab came to my office. Behind Bhatt Saab stood a small statue of me, crafted by a talented artist. I clicked the pic! And suddenly, the photograph became a metaphor."

The actor went on to explain how the image symbolized his lifelong respect and gratitude for Bhatt. "No matter where life takes me, no matter how many films I do, awards I receive, or milestones I cross, a part of me will always remain that small man standing quietly behind #BhattSaab. Because some people don’t merely give you opportunities. They alter the direction of your destiny." Kher credited Bhatt for giving him his breakthrough role in the 1984 classic Saaransh, where he portrayed the unforgettable character B.V. Pradhan.

Recalling the impact of the film and his association with the filmmaker, Kher shared, "Bhatt Saab gave me Saaransh. He gave me B.V. Pradhan. But over the years, I have realised that the role was only the beginning. The greater gift was the privilege of knowing him." He added that every interaction with Bhatt has inspired him to think more deeply and honestly about life and its complexities.

In his moving tribute, Kher praised Bhatt's ability to challenge conventional thinking and confront reality in all its forms. "Every meeting with him has been an invitation to think deeper, question more honestly, and look beyond the obvious. He has an extraordinary ability to strip away pretence and confront life as it is!! Beautiful, painful, contradictory, and yet profoundly meaningful." The actor reflected on how true wealth comes not from achievements but from relationships that contribute to one's personal growth.

Kher further wrote, "The older I grow, the more I understand that our true wealth lies not in what we accumulate, but in the people who expand our consciousness.
