EOW raids Jabalpur civic official’s premises, detects assets worth Rs 2.5 crore

Jabalpur, June 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Tuesday detected assets worth nearly Rs 2.5 crore during searches conducted at the premises of Pola Rao, in-charge Assistant Health Officer of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, as part of an investigation into allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The searches were carried out after the EOW obtained a warrant from a competent court following a complaint against the official. Teams of the anti-corruption agency searched Rao's residence in Muskan Plaza, located in the Vijay Nagar area, and seized documents related to his movable and immovable assets, bank accounts, insurance policies and financial transactions.

According to EOW officials, the preliminary inquiry revealed a number of properties and investments allegedly linked to Rao. These include a residential flat and a plot measuring approximately 10,000 square feet in Jabalpur, as well as agricultural land in his native Andhra Pradesh.

EOW Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjeet Singh said documents related to nearly one acre of agricultural land in Andhra Pradesh were recovered during the searches. He explained that documents pertaining to a flat and a plot of approximately 10,000 square feet in Jabalpur were found, along with records of agricultural land in Andhra Pradesh. The assets and investments are being evaluated as part of the investigation.

Officials further stated that Rao was found to own four two-wheelers and one four-wheeler, collectively valued at around Rs 15-16 lakh. Rao, who is currently posted in the Municipal Corporation's Health Department at Civil Lines, is also understood to be holding charge of multiple municipal wards in the city.

The EOW said a detailed examination of the seized documents is underway to ascertain whether the assets acquired by the official are commensurate with his legitimate income. Financial records, investment details and property documents are being scrutinised as part of the verification process.

Singh said the investigation had also widened to include properties linked to Rao's relatives. He noted that Rao’s sister and brother-in-law reside in Jabalpur, and a property associated with them, reportedly constructed on Nazul land, is also being examined during the course of the investigation.

The EOW said the exact value of the assets and the extent of any disproportion between Rao's income and wealth would be determined after completion of the ongoing assessment and scrutiny of records.
