Nagaland prepares for Census 2027, HLO from July 2026

Kohima, June 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Nagaland is gearing up for the Census 2027, with the first phase, House Listing Operation (HLO), scheduled to be conducted from July 1 to 30, 2026, officials said on Tuesday.

The State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC), chaired by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, reviewed preparedness for the upcoming Census 2027 at a meeting held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima.

During the meeting, Director of Census Operations and Citizen Registration for Nagaland, Keneilhoutuolie Miachieo, presented a detailed PowerPoint report on the status of preparations for the House Listing Operation (HLO). He informed the committee that 6,461 census functionaries have been appointed across the state.

Training for master trainers, field trainers, principal census officers, district census officers, Charge Officers, Supervisors, and Enumerators is either completed or underway. So far, 130 field trainers have been trained, while training for 1,010 Supervisors and 5,124 Enumerators is scheduled between June 8 and June 25.

The committee was also briefed on awareness and publicity measures planned for Self-Enumeration and HLO, including radio interviews, jingles, and advertisements across print and electronic media. Proposals are to broadcast messages from the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Home Commissioner through All India Radio to encourage public participation.

Miachieo further informed that media outreach will be strengthened through the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and the Press Information Bureau (PIB), with coverage and public messages from key dignitaries, including senior state leadership and top officials.

In addition, a social media campaign is planned during the Self-Enumeration and HLO phases. Promotional videos will be produced through Dreamz Unlimited and shared on platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, targeting both state-wide and district-level audiences. Social media influencers will also be engaged to enhance outreach at the district level.

The meeting also reviewed arrangements for the distribution of census materials, postal logistics, manpower deployment, financial status, fund release proposals, and vehicle requirements to ensure the smooth implementation of census operations.

The presentation highlighted compliance with decisions taken in the second SLCCC meeting held on January 30, including notification of the HLO timeline, fund disbursement to districts, manpower deployment status, awareness programmes for legislators and political leaders, and training initiatives.

Deputy Commissioners from all districts attended the meeting virtually.
