Directed by Mexican filmmaking brothers Arturo Ambriz and Roy Ambriz, I Am Frankelda — also titled Soy Frankelda in Spanish — is set in 19th-century Mexico and follows the story of Francisca Imelda, a gifted young writer whose dark imagination is dismissed by a society unwilling to take female authors seriously. Refusing to silence herself, she reinvents her identity as Frankelda, only to become trapped inside a subconscious world shaped by her own terrifying creations.
