New Delhi, May 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) The 75th edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative was celebrated on Commonwealth Games Day with significant enthusiasm throughout Delhi and Gujarat, bringing together Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
The event held in Ahmedabad also witnessed participation from Olympic medallist Gagan Narang, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, and other dignitaries, along with thousands of participants, especially youth, who took part in cycling events promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle under the Fit India Movement.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the occasion was significant as it coincided with both Commonwealth Day and the milestone 75th edition of the nationwide cycling campaign.
He said, “Today is Commonwealth Games Day and also the 75th edition of Sundays on Cycle. Keeping both in mind, Sundays on Cycle was organised across the country. India is the host country for the Commonwealth, and Ahmedabad is the host city. To mark such a situation, thousands of youths have joined the event. Through Sundays on Cycle, youths have been encouraged towards sports, fitness and PM Narendra Modi’s fuel-saving campaign.”
He further added, “Today marks the 75th edition of Sundays on Cycle and also Commonwealth Games Day. As Gujarat is preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, we have gathered here to celebrate both Commonwealth Day and the 75th edition of Sundays on Cycle.”
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised the ongoing initiative, saying, “For the past several weeks, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has been continuously taking the Sundays on Cycle initiative forward. On behalf of Gujarat’s youth, I express gratitude to everyone and also welcome Ayushmann Khurrana to the event.”
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana actively participated in the cycling drive, joining other dignitaries in promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle under the Fit India movement.
The event also saw Olympic medallist Gagan Narang engaging with participants, highlighting the importance of sports and daily physical activity.
Speaking to IANS, Gagan Narang said, “I have now started living in Ahmedabad, and I think this is a very good initiative. This is the 75th edition of Sundays on Cycle, which Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has been running under the Fit India movement. It is a very good effort.”
"Mansukh Mandaviya has created a very good movement by amalgamating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in the Fit India Movement and Khelo India. So many people in Ahmedabad got up at 5 in the morning to witness the enthusiasm in the city for the Commonwealth Games," he added.
Olympic bronze medallist hockey player Gurjit Kaur said, "It feels good to come to Ahmedabad and participate in the Fit India Movement Sunday Cycling event. A lot of people are participating, and the youth are having a lot of fun. So, I would like to tell everyone to go cycling every Sunday."
Meanwhile, in Delhi, Minister Ashish Sood also participated in the 75th edition of the campaign, organised on the occasion of Commonwealth Games Day.
He said, “The Fit India movement and Sundays on Cycle are a unique initiative of the Government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently appealed for fitness, saying people should pedal a cycle before going to a doctor.”
