Jaipur, May 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said former Vice President and three-time Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was a “walking university” of Indian democracy who, through his long public life, mentored thousands of party workers and gave new direction to politics through his experience, conduct and ideals of public service.
Addressing the media after reviewing preparations for the unveiling ceremony of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's life-size statue in Jodhpur on May 14, the Union Minister said the people of Rajasthan have always held deep respect and affection for the veteran leader.
He added that the statue, to be installed in Jodhpur, would inspire future generations about democratic values, good governance and public service.
The Union Minister said Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was not merely a BJP leader, but a mass leader who inspired politicians across party lines, transcending ideological boundaries.
Along with BJP leaders, several opposition leaders also benefited from his vast experience and sought his guidance in public life, he said.
The Union Minister emphasised that the responsibility of a public representative goes beyond policymaking and includes reaching out to people, listening to their grievances and ensuring solutions.
In this spirit, he is scheduled to stay overnight at Phalsund Gram Panchayat in the Pokaran Assembly constituency, where he will interact with villagers.
Shekhawat said Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's life demonstrated that politics is not merely a means to attain power, but one of the most effective instruments for serving society.
He added that the statue would remain a lasting source of inspiration for public service, simplicity and democratic values.
The Union Minister further informed that several senior leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore, will attend the unveiling ceremony.
Earlier, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also conducted a public hearing at the Circuit House for over two hours.
He said the day held special significance as the birth anniversaries of personalities such as Maharana Pratap, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and Gopal Krishna Gokhale inspire people to work with dedication towards nation-building.
Shekhawat added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, everyone must contribute towards realising the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
