Srinagar, May 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday that they have attached property worth Rs 93 lakh in an NDPS case in Chandigarh.
A police statement said that, in a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached a residential property worth nearly Rs 93 lakh in Chandigarh in connection with an NDPS case registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu.
According to officials, the case dates back to January 14 this year, when police apprehended Arun Singh, a resident of Rajeev Nagar, Narwal, Jammu, during a naka checking operation and recovered 5.61 grams of heroin from his possession.
Following the seizure, an FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered, and an investigation was taken up. During the investigation, police unearthed a wider drug trafficking network and traced financial transactions allegedly linked to the narcotics trade.
The probe subsequently led investigators to Chandigarh, where co-accused Rishi Singh, brother of Arun Singh, was found residing.
Police said the investigation revealed that a residential property located in Sector 38-A, Chandigarh, had allegedly been acquired through proceeds generated from illegal narcotics activities connected to the case.
Acting under provisions of the NDPS Act related to illegally acquired assets, a police team from Bagh-e-Bahu Police Station attached the immovable property on Thursday.
Officials described the action as part of the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of narcotics networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir police have been carrying out aggressive anti-drug operations during the ongoing 100-day-long Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, while launching the anti-drug campaign, announced additional punitive action against drug smugglers, drug peddlers and those dealing in drugs.
These punitive actions include cancellation of the Aadhaar card, passport, driving licence and attachment of property generated from the drug trade. These punishments are in addition to the normal legal actions prescribed against such crimes.
