Kiyoshi Kurosawa Returns With Digital-Era Thriller Cloud, Trailer Out Now

Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa is back with a chilling new thriller, Cloud, and Janus Films has just dropped the much-anticipated trailer. Slated for release on July 18, 2025, the film blends psychological horror with social commentary, diving deep into the unsettling realities of online hatred. Written and directed by Kurosawa himself, Cloud is a haunting look at how anonymity and resentment can spiral out of control in the digital age.

 

The story follows Yoshii, played by Masaki Suda, a seemingly ordinary young man who makes a living by flipping goods online—buying low, selling high. But his hustle takes a dark turn when an ominous online post targeting a user known as “Ratel” suddenly seems to be about him. As Yoshii becomes the subject of escalating online vitriol, the digital threats cross over into his real life. A masked figure begins to stalk him, and a chilling voice declares, “I’ll kill this guy,” marking the start of a disturbing descent into fear and paranoia.

 

The cast includes Kotone Furukawa, Daikan Okudaira, Okayama Amane, Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, and Masataka Kubota—each adding depth to the film’s tense, anxiety-ridden atmosphere. Kurosawa, best known for classics like Pulse and Cure, once again leans into themes of alienation, mass hysteria, and the psychological weight of the unknown.
