A look back at Superstorm Sandy’s devastation in New Jersey (Video)

On Oct. 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City, New Jersey, by which time it had gained momentous power and strength. In the nine days that Sandy raged, it first passed over the Caribbean, causing extensive damage in Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Jamaica and Puerto Rico before making its way up the U.S. East Coast. More than 8 million people in the U.S. lost power, and several cities and towns along the coast of New York and New Jersey were completely devastated. In New York City, a 14-foot storm surge, combined with heavy rains, caused substantial flooding in streets, tunnels and subways. More than 600,000 housing units were damaged or destroyed across New York and New Jersey. CBS News Correspondent Chip Reid reported from the devastated Long Beach Island, New Jersey on Oct. 31, 2012.
