Moroccan terror suspect expelled from Italy

Moroccan terror suspect expelled from ItalyRome, May 21 (AKI/IANS) Italian authorities have deported a 34-year-old suspected Moroccan extremist on national security grounds, police said on Monday.

Ouahbi Ahmed Taib, a resident in the province of Chieti in central Italy's Abruzzo region, was expelled under an order banning him from Europe's Schengen area, police said.

Taib's deportation followed a police investigation spearheaded by the anti-mafia and counter-terrorism directorate in Abruzzo's provincial capital, L'Aquila, according to police.

Police gave no further immediate information about the case.

An alleged Albanian supporter of the Islamic State jihadist group was the 44th alleged religious extremist to be expelled from Italy this year, the Interior Ministry said last week.

Over 280 suspected religious extremists have been deported from Italy since January 2015, the Ministry said.
