Ghaziabad, May 18 (IANS) In a major night-long operation, police in Ghaziabad seized 20 trucks transporting stolen iron bars worth Rs 3 crore and arrested about 30 men including the gang leader, police said on Friday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said the police force conducted searches on National Highway-24, covering the entire distance from UP Gate on the Delhi border to Pilkhuwa in Hapur district, overnight.
This followed intelligence inputs that iron bars manufactured by factories in Ghaziabad were being looted in an organised manner.
"I started the patrol from UP Gate till the end of the district boundary and nabbed about 20 trucks illegally transporting iron roads," the officer said.
The drivers and the gang leader, identified as Satish Yadav, confessed that they would intercept the trucks coming out of the factories.
The gang would unload the iron bars from the trucks and instead put scrap of the same quantity. This affected the buyers while the mafia made huge money on the racket, the officer said.
