NPF urges Nagaland voters not to be swayed by money during polls

NPF urges Nagaland voters not to be swayed by money during pollsMokokochung (Nagaland), Feb 13 (IANS) Ruling Naga People's Front (NPF) legislator C. Apok Jamir on Tuesday urged voters not to be "swayed by money or rumours" in the February 27 Nagaland assembly elections.

Urging the constituents to stand firm on their beliefs and principles, the three-time legislator -- who is the son of Odisha Governor and former Nagaland Chief Minister S.C. Jamir -- said the votes should be cast conscientiously in the larger interest of the society and the state.

"Look beyond your grudges against me, if there are any, and vote for the party in whose principles and programmes you believe," he said.

Declaring his candidature seeking re-election from Mokokchung town assembly constituency on NPF ticket, Jamir thanked his constituents for their love and confidence reposed on him all these years.

At the same time, he apologised for not properly reciprocating their trust since he was "unfortunately placed in the Opposition" and for the few years that he was in the government, there had been a "series of political crisis in the party and government".

Ridiculing the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-BJP pre-poll alliance, Jamir said the NPF was a coalition partner of the BJP earlier where the latter "played a minor role".

But the NDPP, he said, has made the "BJP its bed partner and the issues sired through this alliance would be like illegal immigrants since the ideologies of the BJP are alien to the Naga ways of life".
