Supplementary chargesheet filed against Indian Al Qaeda terrorist

New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS) Delhi Police on Monday filed supplementary chargesheet against arrested Al Qaeda terrorist Syed Mohammad Zishan Ali accusing him of motivating youth to become members of the banned terror organisation.

The chargesheet was filed before Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma who directed the probe agency to supply copies of chargesheet to Ali and listed the matter for February 2 for further hearing.

Police, in its second chargesheet, booked the Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) member Ali under Section 18 (conspiracy), Section 18 B (Punishment for recruiting of any person or persons for terrorist act) and Section 20 (Punishment for being member of terrorist gang or organisation) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Ali was deported from Saudi Arabia in August last year.

The court in October last year had framed charges against Abdul Sami, Zafar Masood, Abdul Rehman and Mohammed Asif under provisions of the UAPA observing that there is prima facie, sufficient evidence and incriminating material against them.

But it has discharged Islamic preacher Maulana Syed Anzar Shah observing there was no evidence to show that he delivered any jihadi speech nor he traveled abroad and was member of banned Al Qaeda.

Delhi Police on June 10 2016 filed chargesheet against five suspected Al Qaeda members including Maulana Anzar Shah for motivating Indian people to join it.

Police has also chargesheeted 12 other operatives who are on run.

The Special Cell had in December 2015 arrested Masood, Rehman and Asif in the ongoing operation against the AQIS.

Asif was the recruitment and training head of AQIS, the police said.
