The temperature rose by 0.510 degree Celsius. While the average temperature between 2007 to 2016 was 26.10 degrees Celsius, the mean surface temperature rise for India is still less than the rest of the world over the past century.
Gujarat, Rajasthan and Bihar, however, are the states where a significantly negative or decreasing trend in temperature was observed, while other places recorded a rise.
"The latest Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report (2014) highlights that mean surface temperature of the globe has risen by 0.850 degree Celsius, about 0.180 degree Celsius rise. However, all India mean temperature has risen around 0.640 degree Celsius over the last 110 years," Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Y.S. Chowdary told the Rajya Sabha.
"The rise in the average temperature was 0.51 degree Celsius," the minister said.
The minister further said that the pattern for the period between 1902 to 2012 suggests a significant positive or increasing trend (0.5 degree in general with few pockets of one degree) over most parts of the country except some parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Bihar, where significant negative (decreasing) trend was observed.
