Jammu, March 9 (IANS) The by-elections to the Anantnag and Srinagar Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on April 9 and April 12, respectively, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Thursday.
An EC press release said that counting of votes for both constituencies will take place on April 15.
The Anantnag parliamentary seat fell vacant following the resignation of Mehbooba Mufti after getting elected to the state assembly and taking over as the Chief Minister of the state.
Tariq Hameed Karra, the then PDP member of the Lok Sabha from the Srinagar seat, had last year resigned from both the PDP and Parliament.
The Commission's press release said the gazette notification for the by-polls to the Srinagar seat would be issued on March 14 and for Anantnag on March 17.
The last dates for filing nominations for Srinagar and Anantnag are March 21 and 24 respectively.
With the announcement of elections to the two Lok Sabha seats in the Valley, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in these constituencies.
