UP government turning blind eye to land grab: BJP chief

Lucknow, June 7 (IANS) BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday accused the Samajwadi Party government in the state of turning a blind eye to land grab cases and said his party will set up an online complaints system for those affected to lodge complaints.

Shah also accused the ruling party of hobnobbing with and patronising people encroaching on the government land in the state.

Slamming Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for his alleged failure to tackle law and order in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP president told reporters here that brazen shooting of police officials reflected the alarming situation in the state.

Shah, who is visiting the state almost every week ahead of the 2017 assembly polls, also accused the state government of trying to "block" the initiatives taken by the Narendra Modi government and of making attempts to ensure that benefits of central government schemes do not reach the intended beneficiaries.

Listing the achievements of the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre in two years, the BJP president alleged a "tacit understanding" between the ruling Samajwadi Party and the opposition Bahujan Samaj Party to thwart the BJP's efforts to expand its political base in Uttar Pradesh.

Exhorting BJP workers and leaders to work towards capturing power in Uttar Pradesh, where the party holds a record 71 of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats from the state, Shah said the state's development was possible only under a BJP government.
