Dhanush Postpones ‘OM: Chapter 1’ Release, Avoids Clash With Jailer 2 and Suriya’s Diwali Film

National Film Award winner Dhanush has announced the postponement of his much-awaited Tamil action thriller OM: Chapter 1. The film, which was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, 2026, will now arrive at a later date. Dhanush shared the update on social media, explaining that the decision was taken out of respect for superstar Rajinikanth and to avoid a crowded release window during the festive season.

In his note, Dhanush acknowledged Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2, which is scheduled to release on October 15, just a day before OM: Chapter 1. Sharing his thoughts, Dhanush wrote, “In times like these, shifting the release of a film comes with its own set of challenges. Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years has his film arriving on October 15th, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date.”

Dhanush also addressed the Diwali release window, revealing that OM: Chapter 1 will not be arriving during Diwali this year either. He pointed out that Suriya’s film had already been announced for the same date and stressed the importance of respecting release announcements made earlier. “In all fairness, they announced their date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other's decisions, keeping the larger welfare of cinema and the industry in mind,” he said in his statement.

The decision means Tamil cinema audiences will have to wait a little longer for Dhanush’s latest directorial venture. OM: Chapter 1 is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and features Malayalam cinema veteran Mammootty in a prominent role. With Dhanush himself leading the project, the film has already generated considerable curiosity, particularly among audiences looking forward to another ambitious Tamil action drama.

Dhanush concluded his note by assuring fans that the new release date for OM: Chapter 1 will be announced soon. The actor-director signed off with “Om Namashivaaya,” keeping the announcement respectful and focused on the larger picture. His decision has also received positive reactions from fans online, with many appreciating the gesture towards Rajinikanth and the acknowledgement of Suriya’s previously announced Diwali release.

With Jailer 2 arriving on October 15 and Suriya’s film occupying the Diwali window, Dhanush’s OM: Chapter 1 has now stepped away from the crowded festive-season race.
