Vivek Oberoi Reveals How His Mother Inspired His Spirit of Service: “You Shift From a Victim Mindset to a Victor Mindset”

Vivek Oberoi recently attended the Cancer Patients Aid Association’s (CPAA) Rose Day Cancer event, where he opened up about his deep connection with the cause and revealed how his mother inspired his journey towards service. Reflecting on a difficult phase in his personal life, the actor said it was his mother who helped him look beyond his own struggles and understand the power of helping others. “I think it was when I was going through a very difficult phase in my personal life that my mother truly inspired me,” Vivek said.

Explaining the lesson that stayed with him, Vivek said, “When you wipe away someone else's tears, you shift from a 'victim mindset' to a 'victor mindset.' You feel that God has engaged you in noble work—that He made you a medium to wipe away tears and bring a smile to someone's face.” According to the actor, serving others can become an empowering experience because it allows people to temporarily step away from their own pain. “And that is a very empowering feeling; you forget your own pain and tears,” he added.

Vivek also spoke about how his interactions with young cancer patients have changed the way he looks at everyday problems. “When I look at these little children—some five or six years old, or even just two-and-a-half—and then think about the things we complain about in our own lives—‘this isn't right,’ ‘that isn't right,’ ‘why is this happening to me?’—I realize how trivial those complaints are,” he said. He added that witnessing the vulnerability of children and the helplessness of their parents makes people realise how fortunate they are. “When we witness the vulnerable state of these children and the helplessness of their parents, we begin to understand just how blessed we truly are. And the only way to express gratitude for those blessings is through a spirit of service.”

The actor’s association with CPAA has been a long-standing one, and his presence at Rose Day once again brought attention to the importance of supporting children and families affected by cancer. For Vivek, the cause is not simply about raising awareness but also about being present for those going through an extremely challenging period. His message centred on transforming personal gratitude into meaningful action and using whatever resources one has—whether time, support or compassion—to help others.

While the event focused on service and cancer awareness, Vivek also offered a brief update on his professional front. Asked how things were progressing, the actor said, “We’ve celebrated the occasion. Things are going well; the work is progressing nicely.” He then shared details about some of his upcoming projects, revealing, “Right now, there’s Ramayan and Spirit, followed by Shivaji. It’s all going well.”

With several high-profile projects lined up, Vivek continues to balance his acting commitments with his long-standing association with social causes.
