Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aug 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a tragic incident reported from Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, a couple and their 18-year-old son died after falling from the cliff of a hill, officials said on Friday. The parents were reportedly attempting to dissuade the teenager from ending his life.
According to police, the teenager stood on the edge of a hill as his parents and others spent nearly three hours trying to persuade him to move to safety.
"I am going to jump," the couple' son kept threatening his parents, NDTV reported.
The incident that was captured on video by tourists and locals at the site, took place at Khavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
Around 10 a.m. on Friday, the 18-year-old, a resident of the Devlai area, went to the edge of the hill and threatened to take his own life.
Following which, locals and his mother tried to reason with him. They urged him to think about his future and his parents, but he remained determined to take his own life.
According to eyewitnesses, the teen's father, who had initially been urging him to step back from below the hill, climbed up during the final 15-20 minutes. As the boy continued to move near the edge, the father tried to persuade him again into moving away from it.
At around 1 p.m., he attempted to grab his son, but both of them lost balance and fell from the hill.
Moments later, the teenager's mother also fell from the hill in panic.
Police officials who were present at the spot, had also attempted in vain to persuade the teenager to move away from the cliff.
An eyewitness, identified as Sanjay Jadhav, said that the parents and others had made repeated attempts to persuade the teenager.
"The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn't listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officials were also there," Jadhav told NDTV.
"The mother kept pleading with him not to jump," he added.
