Taipei/New Delhi, Aug 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Guests from government, academia, business community, and media attended 'Chai Pe Charcha with Taiwan 2026' hosted by Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) in India in collaboration with National Chung Hsing University (NCHU).
Around 60 guests participated in the event to experience the tea culture of Taiwan. Professor Ted Chen from NCHU introduced tea-making traditions and tea etiquette of Taiwan. During the event, tea master Alex Wu showed the art of the traditional tea ceremony of Taiwan. Participants also enjoyed tea produced in India using tea processing techniques of Taiwan.
"A fine cup of tea reflects not only the cultural heritage but also serves as a bridge that strengthens the friendship between Taiwan and India," the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India mentioned in a statement.
In June, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister and stated that this milestone depicts the confidence of the Indian people in PM Modi's leadership.
In a statement on X, Lai Ching-te wrote, "Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister in India's history. This milestone reflects the confidence of the Indian people in your leadership. Taiwan will continue to strengthen our partnership with India."
On June 10, PM Modi became India's longest-serving PM, marking 12 years at the helm of the Central government. He crossed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's record with 4,399 days in office as an elected Prime Minister.
When India initiated the 'Look East Policy' in 1991, Taiwan and India started to approach each other and eased visa restrictions. In 1995, both nations established representative offices in each other’s capitals, namely Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) for ROC (Taiwan) in New Delhi and India-Taipei Association (ITA) for India in Taipei.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in Chennai was established in 2012. Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in Mumbai started operating in 2024 as part of the ongoing efforts to facilitate bilateral exchanges in the areas of trade, investment, technology, culture and education with West India.
Through the Taiwan-India Economic Consultation rotating in New Delhi and Taipei, Taiwan and India seek to further strengthen economic and trade ties. Discussions between the two sides cover various topics, including economic and trade development, investment, industrial cooperation, and talent exchange. Additionally, initiatives such as the Taiwan-India CEO Roundtable, the Taiwan-India Industrial Collaboration Summit, and the Taiwan-India Joint Business Councils Meeting are used to facilitate increased communication between associations and private sectors from both sides.
