Gandhinagar, July 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) A target of planting more than 1.1 crore trees across the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency during 2026-27 has been set as part of a large-scale afforestation campaign led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with a mass tree-plantation drive scheduled for July 12.
The campaign, to be held under the theme "Gandhinagar Lok Sabha – Green Lok Sabha", will cover all seven Assembly segments of the constituency.
Citizens have been urged to plant one sapling for each family member and take responsibility for nurturing it.
According to the officials, a total of 1,01,10,026 trees are planned to be planted across the constituency during the year. The Sanand Assembly segment has been assigned the largest share of the target, with 52.64 lakh trees to be planted.
Large-scale plantation is also planned in Kalol and Gandhinagar (North) to further expand green cover across the parliamentary constituency. The campaign follows an increase in the constituency's green cover over recent years.
Officials said intensive plantation undertaken between 2019 and 2025 resulted in an 11.25 per cent rise in green cover in the parliamentary constituency.
Urban greening initiatives have also been carried out across Ahmedabad and surrounding areas.
Around 94 high-tech "Oxygen Parks" have been developed in the urban parts of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency using the Japanese Miyawaki technique and dense plantation methods to establish urban forests in a relatively short period.
The parks are located across several Ahmedabad wards, including Sabarmati, Gota, Thaltej, Bodakdev, Sarkhej and Vejalpur.
The mass plantation drive on July 12 is expected to involve public participation at designated locations across the constituency.
An online registration portal has also been launched to facilitate participation in the campaign. In an appeal issued ahead of the event, organisers called on residents to take part by planting and maintaining at least one sapling for each member of their household.
"The programme aims to expand green cover across the Shah's parliamentary constituency through community participation and sustained care of newly planted trees," officials added.
