Rain to continue across parts of TN, Puducherry, says IMD

Chennai, July 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions by July 3, raising the prospect of enhanced rainfall activity across parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD said an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 3.

The evolving weather system is likely to strengthen monsoon conditions over eastern India while also triggering intermittent rainfall over northern Tamil Nadu.

The department has forecast moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at one or two places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Wednesday and Thursday.

Weather officials have advised residents to remain alert for lightning and brief spells of strong winds during thunderstorms.

In contrast, south Tamil Nadu is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at isolated locations during the same period.

While widespread heavy rain is not anticipated in the southern districts, localised showers are likely to continue under favourable atmospheric conditions.

The IMD has also issued a heavy rainfall alert for Thursday for the hill regions of Coimbatore district and the districts of The Nilgiris and Theni. These areas, which are prone to intense rainfall during the southwest monsoon, could experience heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

Authorities are expected to closely monitor the situation, particularly in vulnerable hilly areas where heavy rain could trigger localised disruptions.

For Chennai, the weather department has forecast a partly cloudy sky on Wednesday. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely to occur in a few parts of the city during the evening or night.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain close to normal, although cloud cover and intermittent showers may provide temporary relief from the prevailing humidity.

Meteorologists said the formation of the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will be closely monitored over the coming days, as its intensity and movement will determine the distribution and extent of rainfall across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.

The IMD has advised the public, particularly those in districts under thunderstorm and heavy rain alerts, to keep track of official weather updates and exercise caution during adverse weather conditions.
