Rajasthan thermal power stations set record in coal unloading without demurrage

Jaipur, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) has achieved a major operational milestone, with its Suratgarh and Chhabra thermal power stations setting records in continuous unloading of coal rakes without incurring any demurrage charges.

According to RVUNL, the 1,500 MW Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Project (6x250 MW) unloaded more than 750 coal rakes without demurrage between September 4, 2025, and May 23, 2026.

Similarly, the 1,000 MW Chhabra Thermal Power Project (4x250 MW) unloaded 521 coal rakes without demurrage between November 2, 2025, and May 23, 2026.

Demurrage charges are imposed by the Railways when coal rakes are not unloaded within the prescribed timeframe.

By ensuring timely unloading and maintaining zero demurrage, the power generation corporation succeeded in controlling coal transportation costs, helping maintain affordable electricity generation for consumers.

Officials attributed the achievement to efficient operation and maintenance of coal handling systems at both thermal power stations, along with the dedicated efforts of employees involved in round-the-clock coal unloading operations.

The achievement has surpassed RVUNL’s previous record set by the Suratgarh Thermal Power Station, where 485 coal rakes were unloaded without demurrage between February 27 and July 27, 2025.

Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar congratulated the management and employees of both power stations for the achievement.

He expressed confidence that other power plants under the corporation would continue to set similar benchmarks in operational efficiency.

Energy Secretary Aarti Dogra also lauded the achievement and congratulated RVUNL Chairman and Managing Director Devendra Shringi along with his team.

She encouraged all generating stations to adopt improved operational practices, strengthen teamwork and strive for even higher standards of performance.

Chairman and Managing Director Devendra Shringi described the milestone as a reflection of effective management and employee commitment.

“The record demonstrates the hard work, coordination and operational efficiency of our teams,” Shringi said.

The achievement is being viewed as a significant step towards improving fuel management, reducing operational costs and ensuring reliable power generation across Rajasthan.
